BenitoLink is a community supported news and information website primarily designed to serve San Benito County residents. The website's purpose is to inform community members about decisions their local government leaders are making and give readers an opportunity to improve the quality of life in their community.
BenitoLink was developed as a project of the Community Foundation for San Benito County through funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. BenitoLink goals are in line with the Knight Foundation and its core interest in facilitating an "informed and engaged community". The foundation's mission explained on its website includes this statement, "Our goal is to foster informed and engaged communities, which we believe are essential for a healthy democracy."
By welcoming contributions on the website from not just reporters but also community members, BenitoLink creates a more open and diverse news source that is more inclusive than traditional news media.
BenitoLink is community supported. That means it is up to all of us to nurture it and make it the dynamic information it can be. This financial support ranges from a growing base of individual donors to larger donors, major donors, business sponsors and community partners.
Your continued support is what makes BenitoLink happen.
